Why This Statue?
This Chengresi is genuinely striking in its visual impact. The acrylic hand-painted pure white body — symbolising the spotless purity of compassion itself — glows brilliantly against richly painted crimson robes and 24K gold-plated crown, ornaments, and throne scrollwork. The contrast of white, deep red, and gleaming gold creates a sacred palette of extraordinary beauty and devotional power. Cast using the ancient lost wax method at 36 cm tall and 5.12 kg, it commands any altar or meditation space with quiet, luminous authority and exceptional sculptural detail throughout.
Who Is Chengresi?
Chengresi, Avalokiteśvara in Sanskrit, is the Bodhisattva of infinite compassion and the most universally beloved deity in all of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He arose from the most profound grief — the tear of a being who saw every realm overflowing with suffering and vowed never to rest until the very last sentient being is liberated. The Dalai Lama is regarded as his living embodiment, and his mantra is the most widely recited in the entire Buddhist world.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Chengresi sits in padmasana — the full lotus posture — radiating absolute, patient compassion that neither rushes nor abandons. His acrylic hand-painted eyes are gently downcast and serene, holding every being in a gaze of warm, unwavering, non-judgmental mercy. His two primary hands are pressed together at the heart in añjali mudrā, tenderly cradling the precious cintāmaṇi wish-fulfilling jewel — the living embodiment of bodhicitta held as his most treasured offering. His upper right hand holds a crystal mālā, silently counting the liberation of every being, while his upper left raises a blooming lotus, representing enlightened purity flourishing effortlessly within saṃsāra.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Chengresi's brilliant white body represents the absolute purity of compassion — a mercy that holds no bias, no condition, and no limit. His four arms reach across the four immeasurables — loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity — embracing every being in every realm simultaneously. The cintāmaṇi jewel pressed at his heart embodies bodhicitta, the most precious aspiration in all of Buddhism: to attain enlightenment solely and completely for the liberation of all others without exception or preference.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra proclaims: "From the pores of Avalokiteśvara's body entire Buddha fields arise — beings who merely hear his name are freed from rebirth in lower realms." The great Tibetan master Jamgön Kongtrul taught: "Chengresi's compassion is not separate from the natural warmth of your own awakened mind — to invoke his name is to remember who you truly are."
Sacred Mantra
“Om Mani Padme Hum”
"Salutations to the jewel in the lotus — may the inseparable union of compassion and wisdom purify all obscurations and fully awaken the enlightened heart within every being without exception."
