Why This Statue?
This Sakyamuni Buddha is defined by its extraordinary two-tone finish — a combination rarely executed at this level of quality. The oxidized copper body develops a rich, warm bronze-brown patina of natural depth and quiet authority, while the silver-plated monastic robe — intricately hand-carved with a precise woven lattice pattern across every surface — shimmers with cool, polished luminosity against the dark form. This interplay of warm bronze and cool silver creates a visual tension of exceptional sophistication. Cast using the ancient lost wax method at 28 cm and 2.94 kg, it is perfectly sized for personal altars and intimate meditation spaces.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa), "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 5th century BCE. Renouncing royal privilege, he discovered the middle path, attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya, and spent forty-five years teaching the path to liberation. He is the founder of Buddhism — born on Nepalese soil — and the most universally revered spiritual teacher across all human civilisations throughout recorded history.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Sakyamuni sits in padmasana — the immovable full lotus posture of his enlightenment — projecting absolute, unshakeable meditative stability. His hand-carved eyes are serenely half-lowered in deep meditative absorption, radiating the quality of a mind that has released every burden and rests in boundless, open compassion. His right hand reaches forward in bhūmisparśa mudrā — the earth-touching gesture — the defining gesture of his awakening, calling the earth itself to witness his indestructible realisation. His left rests open in his lap cradling an alms bowl, the timeless emblem of renunciation, simplicity, and the inner freedom from which all his liberating teachings effortlessly arose.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The striking two-tone finish of this statue carries profound symbolic resonance. The dark oxidized bronze body represents the depths of saṃsāra — the dense, weighty experience of conditioned existence — while the luminous silver robe represents the Dharma itself: the cool, clarifying light of the Buddha's teaching draped over and penetrating the fabric of ordinary life. The intricately woven lattice pattern of the silver robe mirrors the teaching of pratītyasamutpāda — dependent origination — the interconnected web through which all phenomena arise and dissolve.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dhammapada records his words: "You yourself must strive — the Buddhas only point the way." The Majjhima Nikāya teaches: "I teach suffering and the end of suffering — nothing more, nothing less, and nothing else."
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Svaha”
"Salutations to the sage, the great sage, the sage of the Shakya clan — may his boundless enlightened wisdom and compassion fully awaken within all beings without exception."
