Vajrapani (Tibetan: Phyag na rDo rje), known as the "Holder of the Thunderbolt," stands as one of Buddhism's most powerful protective deities. As the embodiment of the Buddha's spiritual power and energy, this fierce bodhisattva serves as the guardian of sacred teachings and the destroyer of ignorance. In Tibetan Buddhism, Vajrapani represents the transformative power of enlightenment itself.
The Fierce Form and Sacred Pose
The statue captures Vajrapani in his fierce pratayalidha warrior pose, legs dynamically positioned as if ready to spring into action. His third eye blazes with supernatural awareness while his main eyes burn with wrathful compassion, piercing through the veils of ignorance. His right hand brandishes the vajra—the indestructible thunderbolt of enlightenment—raised high as if calling down cosmic justice. His left hand grips a lasso, ready to bind the demons of negativity that plague sentient beings.
