Why This Statue?
This statue stops you in your tracks. The acrylic hand-painted body blazes with a bold palette — golden skin, deep navy robes, rich crimson and saffron layers — rendered with the confidence and precision of a master painter. Gold-plated ornamental details, turquoise and red coral inlays, and a fully detailed khaṭvāṅga trident staff make this a visually complex, endlessly rewarding piece. At 36.5 cm tall and 4.22 kg, it carries commanding altar presence while remaining elegant in scale.
Who Is Guru Tshokye Dorje?
Guru Tshokye Dorje, "the Lake-Born Vajra Master", is the eighth of the twelve manifestations of Padmasambhava, directly commemorating his miraculous birth from a lotus blossom upon Lake Dhanakosha. This aspect embodies Padmasambhava at the peak of his tantric power — the moment the lotus-born master fully revealed his indestructible, enlightened nature to the world. He is particularly revered in Nyingma lineages for his mastery over obstacles and elemental forces.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Guru Tshokye Dorje is seated in royal ease upon a richly painted lotus throne, radiating the sovereign confidence of complete realisation. His acrylic hand-painted eyes are wide, direct, and fierce — the penetrating gaze of a master who sees through all illusion without flinching. His right hand raises the vajra at his chest in a gesture of indestructible awareness, while his left cradles a kapāla skull cup brimming with the nectar of immortality. Resting against his left arm, the khaṭvāṅga trident staff signifies his mastery over the three kāyas and three root poisons transformed into wisdom.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Every element of this form carries precise symbolic weight. The vajra represents the indestructible nature of the awakened mind — that which cannot be broken by any force in existence. The skull cup overflowing with nectar signifies the transformation of death and impermanence into the bliss of liberation. His layered robes — monastic, royal, and tantric simultaneously — reflect his complete mastery across all vehicles of Buddhist teaching without exception or limitation.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Padmasambhava Namthar records: "From the heart of the lake he arose, the vajra that cannot be burned, drowned, or destroyed." Guru Tshokye Dorje embodies the svābhāvikakāya — the nature body — the spontaneous union of all three Buddha bodies in one luminous, unborn, undying presence. His arising from water symbolises the bodhicitta that emerges naturally from the depths of pure awareness.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Ah Hum Vajra Guru Padma Siddhi Hum”
"Salutations to the vajra guru, Padmasambhava — may all ordinary and supreme accomplishments be completely and swiftly bestowed upon all beings without exception."
