Why This Statue?
This Manjushri is genuinely arresting. The copper body is lavished in genuine 24K gold gilding that catches light with extraordinary warmth and depth, while turquoise and red coral inlays punctuate the crown and ornaments with vivid jewel-toned brilliance. Acrylic hand-painted facial features — particularly the serene yet alert eyes — deliver a lifelike presence no mass-produced piece can approach. At 33.5 cm tall and 3.36 kg, it strikes the ideal balance between commanding altar presence and refined, elegant proportions.
Who Is Manjushri?
Manjushri, (Tibetan: Jampalyang), "Gentle Glory" — is the Bodhisattva of wisdom, learning, and enlightened intelligence in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. He is considered the oldest and most exalted of all Bodhisattvas, said to have already attained Buddhahood countless aeons ago yet chose to remain in Bodhisattva form to guide beings toward wisdom. Revered across Tibet, Nepal, China, and Japan, he is the patron deity of scholars, students, and all seekers of truth.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Manjushri is seated in padmasana — the full lotus posture — with the dynamic, upright bearing of a sovereign of wisdom. His acrylic hand-painted eyes carry a calm, penetrating intelligence that seems to look directly through surface appearances into the nature of reality itself. His right hand raises the Prajñākhagda — the flaming sword of wisdom — high above his head, poised to sever the root of ignorance in a single decisive stroke. His left hand rests near his heart, holding the stem of a blooming lotus upon which rests the Prajñāpāramitā sūtra, the scripture of transcendent wisdom.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The flaming sword Manjushri wields is not a weapon of violence — it is the razor-sharp discernment of prajñā that cuts through delusion, conceptual confusion, and the fundamental ignorance that perpetuates suffering. The Prajñāpāramitā text resting on the lotus represents the perfection of wisdom in its most direct, transmissible form. His golden form reflects the luminosity of a mind fully purified of all obscuration — clear, brilliant, and inexhaustibly creative.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Mañjuśrī-nāma-saṃgīti proclaims: "He whose wisdom is like the rising sun, dispelling the darkness of ignorance across all worlds simultaneously." The Vimalakirti Sūtra portrays Manjushri as the only Bodhisattva wise enough to engage the enlightened layman Vimalakirti in direct dialogue — a testament to the supreme, unmatched depth of his realisation and understanding.
Sacred Mantra
“Om A Ra Pa Ca Na Dhih”
"Salutations to Manjushri — may the wisdom that perceives the true nature of all phenomena be fully awakened within my mind, cutting through all ignorance and confusion completely."
