Why This Statue?
Standing nearly 40 cm tall with a spectacular jewel-encrusted halo, this statue is impossible to overlook. The 24K gold finish is warm and luminous, while the hand-painted face — featuring the iconic urna and serene expression — brings genuine artistry to every detail. Dozens of hand-set turquoise, red coral, and lapis stones ring the aureole in vivid color. At 4.86 kg, it is built to last generations.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni — Shakya Thubpa in Tibetan, meaning "Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama. Born in Lumbini, Nepal, around 563 BCE, he renounced royal life, attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodhgaya, and spent his remaining decades teaching the path to liberation across northern India.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Sacred Posture
The half-closed, hand-painted eyes radiate unshakeable inner peace — absorbed in the silence beyond all suffering. His right hand extends downward in Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture, calling the ground itself to witness his enlightenment. His left hand rests in his lap in Dhyana Mudra, cradling meditative stillness. Seated in full lotus on an ornately carved lotus throne, every inch of his posture embodies complete awakening.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The sweeping aureole represents the Buddha's radiant field of merit and wisdom — his enlightened energy extending in all directions. The lotus throne affirms purity arising from samsara. Turquoise symbolizes healing and protection, red coral embodies life force, and lapis lazuli mirrors the vast, cloudless sky of the awakened mind.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta records the Buddha's first teaching after enlightenment — the turning of the Wheel of Dharma. He proclaimed: all conditioned existence involves suffering; suffering has an origin; it can cease; and there is a path leading to its cessation. This statue enshrines that pivotal moment of cosmic generosity, when wisdom was freely offered to the world.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Maha Muniye Svaha”
"Homage To The Sage, The Great Sage, Sakyamuni." Reciting this mantra purifies negative karma, cultivates wisdom, and deepens connection to the Buddha's enlightened qualities invoking his boundless compassion and the liberating power of the Dharma into everyday life.
