Why this Statue Set?
This exceptional trio offers practitioners a complete representation of the Gelug lineage, perfect for creating a powerful shrine that honors scholarly wisdom, monastic discipline, and the unbroken transmission of Buddhist teachings.
Who is Tsongkhapa?
Tsongkhapa Losang Dragpa (1357-1419) stands as one of Tibet's greatest Buddhist masters and the founder of the Gelug school, known as the "Yellow Hat" tradition. Born in the Tsongkha region of Tibet, this remarkable scholar-saint synthesized the profound teachings of Indian Buddhist masters into a comprehensive path to enlightenment. His disciples included the first Dalai Lama, establishing a lineage that continues to illuminate the Buddhist world today.
Divine Scholar's Form and Sacred Gesture
This magnificent three-piece set captures Tsongkhapa in his classic scholarly pose, seated in vajra position with serene, compassionate eyes that reflect deep meditative wisdom. His gentle smile emanates boundless loving-kindness, while his hands gracefully hold the stems of lotus flowers that bloom beside his shoulders—one supporting the Perfection of Wisdom sutra, the other a flaming sword of Manjushri. Flanking their beloved master are his two principal disciples: Gyaltsab Je (to his right) and Khedrup Je (to his left), both depicted in identical meditative postures with hands in teaching mudras. These accomplished masters, known as the "Father and Sons" trio, represent the complete transmission of Tsongkhapa's teachings. Their synchronized postures and reverent expressions demonstrate the unbroken lineage of wisdom flowing from master to disciple, creating a harmonious trinity of scholarly accomplishment and spiritual realization.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
This statue set embodies the complete Buddhist path: the lotus flowers represent the purity of the enlightened mind rising from samsaric existence, while the sword symbolizes the cutting through of ignorance. The scholarly texts signify the importance of study and contemplation in spiritual development, reflecting Tsongkhapa's emphasis on combining profound learning with meditative realization.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
Tsongkhapa's teachings emphasized the union of sunyata (emptiness) and karuna (compassion), following the Madhyamaka philosophy of Nagarjuna while incorporating the tantric practices of the Vajrayana tradition.
