Why This Statue?

This Dzambhala is immediately compelling in its visual character. The oxidized copper finish develops a rich, deep bronze-brown patina across the entire form, punctuated by vivid red acrylic-painted accents at the crown — creating a bold, jewel-like contrast of dark bronze and crimson that is both fierce and sacred. The rotund, richly ornamented body and serpent-wrapped hands are rendered with exceptional hand-carved detail throughout. Cast using the ancient lost wax method at 20.5 cm and 2.02 kg, this compact yet weighty piece carries remarkable altar presence for its size.

Who Is Dzambhala?

Dzambhala is the Buddhist deity of wealth, abundance, and the elimination of poverty in all its forms — material, spiritual, and karmic. He is considered an emanation of Avalokiteśvara, arising from the Bodhisattva's compassion for beings suffering from scarcity and deprivation. Revered across Tibet, Nepal, and the broader Buddhist world, Dzambhala's blessings are invoked not merely for material prosperity but for the accumulation of merit and the removal of all obstacles to a meaningful, Dharma-filled life.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Dzambhala sits in rājalīlāsana — the posture of royal ease — his full, rounded body radiating the abundant, self-satisfied energy of a being overflowing with inexhaustible generosity. His acrylic hand-painted eyes are wide and fierce, holding the powerful gaze of a wealth deity who sees through every form of poverty — including the poverty of spirit — and dismantles it without hesitation. His left hand holds a mongoose — the mythic creature that spits forth jewels and riches — while his right cradles a wish-fulfilling jewel, the cintāmaṇi, representing the fulfilment of all beings' deepest material and spiritual aspirations.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

Dzambhala's full, rounded form is itself a symbol — the physical expression of abundance, satisfaction, and the inexhaustible nature of generosity when practised without attachment. The mongoose he holds is his most distinctive attribute — in Buddhist mythology, the mongoose is the natural enemy of the nāgas, the serpent spirits who guard underground treasures. When it opens its mouth, jewels pour forth freely, representing the dissolution of all hoarding and the free flow of prosperity to all beings. His oxidized bronze finish evokes the quality of ancient, tested, enduring wealth.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Dzambhala Tantra teaches: "Through the power of generosity, all obstacles to abundance are dissolved — the merit accumulated through giving is the greatest treasure any being can possess." The great Tibetan master Sakya Pandita taught that invoking Dzambhala with pure motivation — wishing prosperity for the benefit of all beings — multiplies both material and spiritual abundance simultaneously.

Sacred Mantra

“Om Dzambhala Dzalendzaye Svaha”

"Salutations to Dzambhala — may all poverty, scarcity, and obstacles to abundance be completely dissolved, and may prosperity and merit flow freely to all beings without exception."
