Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha? 

Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa),  "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 5th century BCE. Leaving behind a life of royal privilege, he sought the deepest truth of human suffering, attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya, and compassionately taught the path to liberation for forty-five years. He is the founding teacher of Buddhism and the most widely revered spiritual master across all world traditions.
