Why This Statue?
This Sakyamuni Buddha is the definitive sacred centerpiece. The copper body, cast using the revered lost wax method, is lavished in genuine 24K gold gilding that radiates a profound, warm luminosity under any light. The intricately engraved monastic robes — swirling with hand-tooled floral and scroll patterns — demonstrate a level of artisan dedication rarely seen outside museum collections. Acrylic hand-painted facial features deliver a serene, lifelike presence of extraordinary beauty. At 35 cm tall and 5.20 kg, this statue commands any altar with quiet, unshakeable authority.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa), "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born as Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, around the 5th century BCE. After years of spiritual seeking, he attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India, and spent the remaining decades of his life teaching the path to liberation. He is the founding teacher of Buddhism and the most universally revered figure across all Buddhist traditions worldwide.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Sakyamuni sits in padmasana — the immovable full lotus posture — the very pose in which he attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. His acrylic hand-painted eyes are half-closed in deep meditative equipoise, radiating boundless compassion and unshakeable inner peace simultaneously. His right hand reaches down to touch the earth in bhūmisparśa mudrā — the earth-touching gesture — calling the earth itself to witness his enlightenment, while his left rests in his lap cradling an alms bowl, symbolising simplicity, renunciation, and the mendicant life he chose above all worldly comfort.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Every detail of this statue encodes the entire arc of the Buddha's enlightenment. The bhūmisparśa mudrā commemorates the pivotal moment of his awakening — when Mara challenged his right to enlightenment and the earth roared in affirmation. The alms bowl reflects the vinaya — his teaching that liberation begins with simplicity and generosity. The uṣṇīṣa — the cranial protuberance atop his head — and the ūrṇā — the mark between his brows — are two of the thirty-two physical marks of a fully enlightened Buddha.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dhammapada records the Buddha's own words: "Mind is the forerunner of all actions; with mind purified, happiness follows like a shadow that never departs." The Lalitavistara Sūtra celebrates the moment of his enlightenment: "The earth trembled, flowers fell from the heavens, and all beings felt, without knowing why, a sudden, inexplicable peace."
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Svaha”
"Salutations to the sage, the great sage, the sage of the Shakya clan — may his enlightened wisdom and compassion fully awaken within all beings without exception."
