Why This Statue?
Few statues command a room quite like this one. Standing at 51 cm and weighing nearly 13 kg, this is a substantial, altar-worthy piece built to endure generations. The oxidized copper finish gives the surface a rich, antique warmth — deep bronzed tones that shift beautifully under candlelight or natural light. Every petal, jewel, and lotus tendril is hand-carved with extraordinary precision, making each piece genuinely one of a kind. For collectors and practitioners alike, this is sacred art at its most compelling.
Who Is White Tara?
White Tara, (Tibetan: Drolkar), is one of the most beloved deities in Vajrayana Buddhism — a compassionate goddess of long life, healing, and protection. She is said to have been born from a tear of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, making her the very embodiment of mercy. Revered across Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia, she is called upon to remove suffering and extend the lifespan of those in need.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
White Tara is seated in padmasana — the full lotus position — radiating serene, unshakeable composure. She possesses seven eyes: one on her forehead, one in each palm, and one on each sole of her feet, all symbolising her ceaseless vigilance over all sentient beings. Her right hand rests in varada mudrā, the boon-granting gesture of boundless generosity, while her left holds a blooming utpala lotus, signifying purity rising from the world's chaos.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
White Tara embodies the inseparability of wisdom and compassion. Her usual white colour represents purity, truth, and the totality of all colours of wisdom unified. The double lotus throne upon which she sits reflects her transcendence above worldly suffering. The flowering lotus stems flanking her form represent the three times — past, present, and future — all held within her compassionate awareness.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Tāra Tantra proclaims: "She who ferries beings across the ocean of existence with the boat of her compassion." White Tara is the prajñā śakti — the wisdom energy — of compassionate action, described in the Mañjuśrī-mūla-kalpa as the mother of all Buddhas who continuously acts for the benefit of all living beings without exception.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Mama Ayur Pune Jnana Pushtim Kuru Svaha”
"I invoke Tara — she who liberates — to bestow upon me long life, merit, and the nourishment of wisdom."
