Why This Statue?
This Vajrasattva is a study in luminous refinement. The copper body, cast using the ancient lost wax method, is finished in genuine 24K gold gilding that glows with deep, sovereign warmth from every angle. Lapis and red coral inlays punctuate the ornate crown and jewellery with striking flashes of deep blue and crimson. The combination of gold paint and acrylic hand-painted facial features — particularly the dark, expressive eyes and serene lips — creates an arrestingly lifelike, spiritually present quality that elevates this piece far above the ordinary.
Who Is Vajrasattva?
Vajrasattva, (Tibetan: Dorje Sempa), "the Being of Indestructible Mind" — is the supreme purification deity of Vajrayana Buddhism. He embodies the absolute, unstainable purity of the enlightened mind and serves as the primary deity invoked to dissolve negative karma, broken vows, and spiritual obscurations. Revered across Tibetan and Newar Buddhist traditions, Vajrasattva's hundred-syllable mantra is considered the most powerful purification practice within the entire ngöndro foundational path.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Vajrasattva is seated in padmasana — the immovable full lotus posture — embodying the absolute stillness of a mind that has nothing left to resist or pursue. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes gaze gently downward with all-encompassing, non-judgmental compassion — the gaze of a being who sees every stain of karma and responds only with boundless willingness to purify. His right hand holds the golden vajra pressed at his heart, representing the indestructible essence of the awakened mind, while his left rests on his knee, gracefully holding the ghanta bell — the two implements together embodying the inseparable union of wisdom and compassionate method.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Vajrasattva's resplendent golden form represents the inherent purity of mind that no negative karma can permanently obscure. His white essence — luminously expressed through brilliant gold — symbolises the dharmadhātu, the unborn, undying expanse of reality. The ornate lotus throne beneath him signifies complete transcendence above saṃsāra, while his jewelled crown reflects the fullness of the five Buddha wisdoms radiating in all directions without obstruction or partiality.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Vajrasattva Tantra declares: "Even the heaviest karma accumulated across countless lifetimes is purified in the vast, compassionate presence of Vajrasattva." The Guhyasamāja Tantra describes him as the sovereign of all one hundred Buddha families — the primordial ground of purification whose very name and form dissolve obscurations the moment they are recalled with sincere devotion and genuine remorse.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Vajrasattva Hum”
"Salutations to the indestructible being — may all impurities of body, speech, and mind be completely purified and dissolved into the boundless expanse of primordial, unstainable awareness."
