Who Is Manjushri?
Manjushri — Jampalyang in Tibetan, Mañjuśrī in Sanskrit — is the Bodhisattva of Wisdom and Knowledge. Revered across Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism, he embodies the sword-sharp clarity of mind that cuts through delusion, ignorance, and the veils obscuring ultimate truth.

The half-lidded, hand-painted eyes convey penetrating wisdom — calm yet all-seeing. His right hand raises the Prajñā sword high, ready to sever ignorance at its root. His left hand, held at the heart, grasps a blooming lotus upon which rests the Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra — the scripture of perfect wisdom. Seated in full lotus posture on a double-lotus throne, his dynamic yet grounded form embodies awakened intelligence in perfect stillness.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The flaming sword does not destroy — it liberates. Each gemstone carries intention: lapis lazuli reflects the sky-like clarity of the enlightened mind, turquoise symbolizes protection, and red coral represents fearless vitality. The lotus throne affirms that wisdom blooms unsullied from the depths of suffering.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Mañjuśrī-nāmasaṃgīti, one of Buddhism's most celebrated tantric texts, declares Manjushri as the embodiment of all Buddhas' wisdom — past, present, and future. Tibetan tradition holds that invoking Manjushri sharpens the mind and dissolves confusion, opening the path to direct insight into emptiness (śūnyatā).
