Why This Statue?
This Green Tara is a rare dual-finish masterpiece — her body gleams in polished silver while her lotus throne, crown, and robes radiate warm 24K gold, creating a breathtaking visual contrast found in the finest Nepalese temple art. Crafted via the ancient lost-wax method, every lotus petal, flowering stem, and ornamental scroll is shaped by hand. At nearly 8.66 kg, her solid copper core ensures lasting durability across generations.
Who Is Green Tara?
Green Tara, (Tibetan: Sgrol-ma Ljang-khu) Shyama Tara in Sanskrit — is the beloved Bodhisattva of swift compassion and active liberation. Born from a teardrop of Avalokiteshvara, she vowed to remain in female form until all beings are free from suffering. She is the mother of all Buddhas.
Grace in Every Detail: Eyes, Hands, and Posture
Her half-closed eyes radiate serene vigilance — present in both meditation and the world's pain. Her right hand rests in varada mudra (supreme giving), and her left holds a blooming blue lotus (utpala) in vitarka mudra, conferring protection. She sits in lalitasana — one leg extended in readiness — signifying she acts immediately when called upon.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The twin lotus blossoms flanking her shoulders represent purity and enlightened potential. Her golden crown denotes sovereignty over the three realms. The lotus throne affirms her transcendence above samsara's turbulent waters, while her outstretched foot declares she is forever ready to step forward and rescue those in need.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Tara Tantra proclaims: "Tarayate iti Tara" — she is Tara because she ferries beings across the ocean of suffering. In the Praises to the Twenty-One Taras, she is hailed as the swift one whose glance alone destroys fear.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha”
"Om — I prostrate to Tara, the liberator. Tuttare — protect me from fears. Ture — grant swift blessings. Soha — may this be firmly established." Chanting her mantra invokes immediate protection, healing, and the removal of all obstacles on the path to awakening.
