The tiered lion-footed pedestal adds further architectural grandeur. Who Is Standing Tara?

Standing Tara, (Tibetan: Dölma Shugpa), represents Tara in her most active, responsive form. Known in Sanskrit as Shyama Tara or simply Tara, she is the female Bodhisattva of swift compassion and liberation. While seated Tara embodies meditation, Standing Tara has already risen — she moves toward suffering beings without hesitation, embodying immediate, unconditional rescue.

The gold-painted face and wide, open eyes radiate warmth, alertness, and fearless compassion — fully present, fully engaged. The right hand extends downward in Varada Mudra, the boon-granting gesture of boundless giving. The left hand holds a half-open lotus (utpala), symbolizing unfolding liberation.
