Why This Statue?
This Green Tara commands attention the moment it enters a room. Cast using the ancient lost wax method, the copper body is richly finished in genuine 24K gold, radiating a warm, luminous glow that deepens under candlelight. Hand-carved turquoise, red coral, and lapis gemstones embellish the lotus throne and crown, while acrylic hand-painted features give her face an arrestingly lifelike, compassionate expression. At 37 cm tall and 5.46 kg, she carries a substantial presence without dominating a sacred space.
Who Is Green Tara?
Green Tara, (Tibetan: Drolma), is the swift-acting goddess of compassion and fearlessness in Vajrayana Buddhism — the divine mother who responds instantly to the cries of suffering beings. Born from a tear of Avalokiteśvara, she vowed to remain in feminine form until all beings attained liberation. Across Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia, she is the most beloved protectress, invoked to overcome obstacles, fears, and life's eight great dangers.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Green Tara is seated in lalitāsana — the posture of royal ease — with her right leg extended forward, poised for immediate, compassionate action. Her acrylic hand-painted eyes gaze with alert, tender awareness, fully present to every being's need. Her right hand rests in varada mudrā, the open gesture of supreme generosity and wish-fulfillment, while her left holds the stem of a blooming red utpala lotus, representing purity and the unfolding of enlightened qualities within saṃsāra.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Green Tara's emerald essence — rendered here in luminous gold — symbolises active compassion, vitality, and the enlightened energy that moves without hesitation. Her extended right leg represents her readiness to step instantly into the world and protect. The utpala lotus she carries grows from mud yet blooms immaculate, mirroring her teaching that awakening is possible within ordinary life. Her jewelled crown reflects sovereignty over the three realms of existence.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Tārā Mūla Tantra declares: "She who saves with a single glance; whose compassion arises faster than thought." In the Praise to the Twenty-One Tārās, she is celebrated as the one who dissolves all fear instantly — "swift as lightning, boundless as the sky." The great master Atiśa attributed his every realization directly to her grace and guidance.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha”
"I invoke Tara — she who liberates from suffering, fear, and all obstacles — may her swift compassion and blessings flow freely and completely."
