Why This Statue?

What makes this Manjushri immediately unforgettable is the bold, naturalistic warmth of his acrylic hand-painted body — rich golden-ochre skin set against deep crimson robes and 24K gold-plated ornaments, crown, and sword blade. The contrast of warm flesh tones, vivid red, and gleaming gold creates a palette of exceptional visual energy and sacred drama. Cast using the ancient lost wax method with fine sculptural detail throughout, this 35.5 cm, 4.54 kg statue carries dynamic altar presence that rewards every viewing with new layers of artisan refinement.

Who Is Manjushri?

Manjushri, (Tibetan: Jampalyang), "Gentle Glory" — is the Bodhisattva of wisdom, learning, and enlightened intelligence in Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Considered the oldest and most exalted of all Bodhisattvas, he is said to have attained Buddhahood countless aeons ago, yet chose to remain in Bodhisattva form to guide beings toward wisdom. Revered across Tibet, Nepal, China, and Japan, he is the patron deity of scholars, philosophers, and all who seek the clear light of truth beyond conceptual confusion.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Manjushri is seated in padmasana — the full lotus posture — with the upright, sovereign bearing of a being whose mind rests in perfect clarity. His acrylic hand-painted eyes are calm and penetrating, carrying the quality of awareness that sees directly through surface appearances into the luminous nature of reality itself. His right arm is raised dramatically, wielding the Prajñā khadga — the flaming sword of wisdom — poised to sever the root of ignorance in one decisive, compassionate stroke. His left hand rests near his heart in vitarka mudrā, holding the stem of a blooming lotus upon which the Prajñā-pāramitā sūtra rests — the scripture of transcendent wisdom in its most direct, transmissible form.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

The flaming sword Manjushri raises is not a weapon of violence — it is the razor-sharp prajñā that cuts through delusion, conceptual fog, and the fundamental ignorance perpetuating all suffering. The warm golden-ochre of his painted body reflects the luminosity of a mind completely purified of all obscuration — clear, radiant, and inexhaustibly creative. His crimson robes represent the fire of discriminating wisdom, while the gold-plated crown and ornaments reflect his sovereignty as the supreme lord of all intellectual and spiritual understanding across all realms and all times.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Mañjuśrī-nāma-saṃgīti proclaims: "He whose wisdom is like the rising sun, dispelling the darkness of ignorance across all worlds simultaneously without effort or interruption." The Vimalakirti Sūtra portrays Manjushri as the only Bodhisattva wise enough to meet the enlightened layman Vimalakirti in direct, equal dialogue — a testament to the supreme, unmatched depth of his realisation.

Sacred Mantra

“Om A Ra Pa Ca Na Dhih”

"Salutations to Manjushri — may the wisdom that perceives the true nature of all phenomena be fully awakened within my mind, cutting through all ignorance and confusion completely."
