Why This Statue?
This remarkable statue showcases masterful Nepalese craftsmanship with its rich oxidized patina that enhances every intricate detail. The complex eight-armed configuration demonstrates exceptional technical skill, with each hand perfectly positioned and holding finely carved implements. At 24 centimeters tall, this substantial piece radiates commanding presence while remaining ideal for personal altars, making it an invaluable treasure for practitioners seeking Namgyal's protective blessings and purifying power.
Who is Namgyal?
Namgyal, (Tibetan: Tsug Tor Nam Par Gyelma) meaning "Victorious One" in Tibetan, is a powerful meditation deity representing the complete victory over negativity, obstacles, and the cycle of suffering. Also known as Ushnisha-vijaya in Sanskrit, this supreme deity embodies longevity, purification, and the conquest of death itself. Revered across Himalayan Buddhism, Namgyal is invoked for protection from untimely death, purification of negative karma, and the attainment of spiritual victory over all delusions.
Multi-Armed Magnificence and Sacred Posture
This extraordinary statue portrays Namgyal with eight powerful arms, seated in vajrasana (diamond pose) upon an ornate lotus throne. The serene face features half-closed eyes in deep meditative concentration, expressing both peaceful compassion and unwavering determination. The elaborate five-pointed crown signifies enlightened sovereignty over all realms. Each hand holds significant implements: the primary hands form dharma chakra mudra at the heart, holding a miniature Buddha figure representing the transmission of enlightened teachings. The upper hands display abhaya mudra (gesture of fearlessness) and varada mudra (gesture of generosity). The remaining hands hold sacred implements including a bow and arrow symbolizing the piercing of ignorance, ritual implements for purification, and the vajra representing indestructible truth. The intricate oxidized detailing reveals extraordinary craftsmanship in the flowing robes, jewelry, and ornamental patterns covering the body.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The eight arms represent the eight consciousnesses purified into enlightened wisdom. The bow and arrow symbolize focus and the destruction of obstacles. Namgyal's peaceful yet powerful presence embodies the complete victory over death and suffering, offering devotees longevity and spiritual protection.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
Known as Ushnisha-vijaya (Victorious Crown), this deity embodies jaya (victory) and amrita (immortality). Sacred texts declare: "Sarva papa ksayam kari"—She destroys all negative karma and grants supreme liberation.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Bhrum Soha Om Amrita Ayur Dade Soha”
This longevity mantra invokes Namgyal's blessings for extended life, purification of obstacles, and ultimate spiritual victory.
