This exceptional Green Tara statue showcases remarkable artistry through its sophisticated oxidized patina that creates depth and timeless beauty. Who is Green Tara?

Green Tara, known as Shyama Tara in Sanskrit, is the "Mother of Liberation" and the embodiment of active compassion in Tibetan Buddhism. Born from Avalokiteshvara's tears of compassion for suffering beings, she represents the swift response to prayers and the removal of obstacles. As the feminine aspect of enlightened activity, Tara protects from the eight fears and guides practitioners toward spiritual awakening with maternal tenderness and fierce determination.

Divine Features and Posture

Green Tara sits in lalitasana (royal ease posture) with her right leg extended, symbolizing her readiness to spring into action to help sentient beings. Her right hand displays varada mudra (wish-granting gesture) resting on her knee, while her left hand holds a lotus stem in vitarka mudra (teaching gesture) near her heart. Her serene face features half-closed eyes of wisdom gazing compassionately downward toward humanity. The elaborate crown represents her princely nature, while elongated earlobes recall her royal origins before choosing the bodhisattva path. The graceful triple-bend posture (tribhanga) embodies celestial elegance, and the lotus flowers blooming beside her shoulders represent purity emerging from worldly existence.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

This statue embodies protection, swift compassionate action, and the removal of obstacles. The extended right leg symbolizes Tara's readiness to step into the world to assist practitioners, while the tucked left leg represents meditative wisdom. The turquoise inlays connect to healing energies and spiritual protection, while coral represents life force and vitality. The blooming lotuses signify enlightenment transcending worldly attachment. Together, these elements create a powerful representation of feminine divine energy that combines nurturing compassion with courageous action.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Tara Tantra states: "She who ferries beings across the ocean of existence." The Praise to the Twenty-One Taras describes her as "TURE, the swift liberator who dispels the eight fears." Atisha, who brought Tara practice to Tibet, declared: "Tara is the mother of all Buddhas of past, present, and future."

Sacred Mantra

“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha”

This sacred mantra invokes Tara's liberating power: "Om" represents body, speech, and mind; "Tare" means liberation from samsara; "Tuttare" dispels inner and outer dangers; "Ture" grants spiritual and temporal prosperity; "Soha" seals the blessing.
