Who is Manjushri?
Manjushri, known in Tibetan as Jampelyang, is the Bodhisattva of Transcendent Wisdom, revered across Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions. He personifies prajna, the penetrating wisdom that cuts through ignorance and illuminates the true nature of reality, guiding practitioners toward liberation and enlightenment.
Sacred Features and Iconic Posture
Manjushri's serene golden face bears half-closed eyes radiating calm discernment and compassionate intelligence. His right hand raises the flaming Sword of Wisdom, high above his head, severing the roots of ignorance. His left hand, open in vitarka mudra near his heart, holds a blooming lotus supporting the Prajnaparamita scripture. Seated in vajra posture upon a richly painted double-lotus throne, his upright form embodies unwavering clarity and enlightened stillness.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The flaming sword dispels delusion; the lotus signifies purity born from the world's complexity; the scripture represents boundless wisdom teachings. His golden complexion symbolizes the radiant, incorruptible nature of the awakened mind.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Mañjuśrīnāmasamgīti declares Manjushri the embodiment of all Buddhas' wisdom — the primordial awareness that perceives emptiness directly, dissolving all conceptual veils.
Sacred Mantra
“Om A Ra Pa Ca Na Dhih”
"Om" invokes the sacred; "Ara Pa Ca Na" are seed syllables activating wisdom energy; "Dhih" is Manjushri's seed syllable, sharpening intellect and dissolving ignorance, awakening profound clarity within the practitioner.
