Who Is Lion Dzambhala?
Lion Dzambhala is a rare and particularly powerful emanation of Dzambhala, the Buddhist god of wealth and prosperity. Seated upon the snow lion — symbol of fearlessness and dominion — this form embodies the unconquerable, roaring force of enlightened generosity that dismantles poverty at its root, both material and spiritual.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Sacred Posture
The hand-painted blue face bears three commanding eyes and a fierce yet benevolent expression framed by a magnificent golden crown. His raised right hand grips a golden victory banner (dhvaja), proclaiming triumph over scarcity and suffering, while his left cradles a mongoose (nehulay) — the traditional wealth-dispenser that spills jewels upon devotees. Seated cross-legged with sovereign ease atop the snarling snow lion, his posture radiates unshakeable authority over the forces of abundance.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The snow lion mount represents fearless, unconditioned awareness — the unstoppable ground from which true prosperity arises. The victory banner declares liberation from poverty of body, mind, and spirit. Together they affirm that Lion Dzambhala's wealth is not merely material but encompasses wisdom, merit, and spiritual richness beyond measure.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dzambhala Tantra teaches: "Generosity is the root of all prosperity." Dzambhala's practice purifies miserliness — the lobha (greed) that blocks the natural flow of abundance — and opens the practitioner to receiving and sharing wealth as an act of dharma.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Dzambhala Dzalendraye Svaha”
"Om" opens universal receptivity; "Dzambhala" calls the wealth deity directly; "Dzalendraye" honors him as lord of riches; "Svaha" seals the blessing, establishing material and spiritual prosperity firmly within the practitioner's life and merit field.
