Who Is Lion Dzambhala?
Lion Dzambhala is the most powerful and commanding emanation of Dzambhala, the Buddhist deity of wealth and generosity. Enthroned upon the snow lion — symbol of fearless, unconditional awareness — this form channels the full roaring force of enlightened abundance, obliterating poverty of body, mind, and spirit with sovereign authority.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Sacred Posture
The hand-painted blue face bears three eyes of penetrating, wrathful awareness beneath an ornate golden crown. His right hand raises a golden victory banner (dhvaja) high — a triumphant declaration of conquest over scarcity — while his left cradles the jewel-spewing mongoose (nehulay) against his rounded belly. Seated in a regal ease atop the golden snarling snow lion, his posture radiates the absolute confidence of one who commands all worldly and spiritual riches.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The snow lion beneath Dzambhala represents fearlessness — the courageous, open-hearted quality from which genuine abundance naturally flows. The victory banner proclaims liberation from the three forms of poverty: material want, spiritual obscuration, and the miserliness of a closed heart. Together, lion and banner affirm that true wealth begins within.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dzambhala Tantra teaches: "Wealth given with an open hand purifies the giver and enriches the receiver." Dzambhala's practice dissolves lobha — the Sanskrit term for greed — transforming clinging into generosity and opening the natural channel of lakshmi (abundance) through merit and compassionate action.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Dzambhala Dzalendraye Svaha”
"Om" opens universal receptivity to abundance; "Dzambhala" calls the wealth deity by name; "Dzalendraye" honors him as sovereign lord of riches; "Svaha" seals and establishes the blessing, manifesting prosperity across all dimensions of the practitioner's life and merit field.
