Why This Statue?
This Amitabha Buddha is a devotional treasure of rare elegance. The copper body is finished in genuine 24K gold gilding — producing a deep, warm luminosity that fills any altar or meditation space with radiant calm. Hand-carved turquoise, red coral, and lapis gemstones punctuate the engraved robe borders and lotus throne with vivid jewel-toned colour, while gold and acrylic hand-painted facial features achieve a serene, lifelike presence of extraordinary refinement. At 33 cm tall and 4.52 kg, it carries substantial, quietly commanding altar presence.
Who Is Amitabha Buddha?
Amitabha, (Tibetan: Öpagme), "Boundless Light" — is one of the most widely revered Buddhas across Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions. He presides over Sukhāvatī, the Western Pure Land — a realm of perfect conditions for enlightenment where all who call his name with sincere devotion are reborn. Revered from Japan to Tibet to Nepal, Amitabha embodies the discriminating wisdom that transforms attachment into clarity and guides all beings toward the western paradise of liberation.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Amitabha sits in padmasana — the immovable full lotus posture — embodying the absolute stability of a mind resting in boundless, luminous awareness. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes are serenely half-closed, holding the gaze of a being absorbed in the deepest meditative equanimity while simultaneously embracing all beings with infinite compassion. Both hands rest open in his lap in dhyāna mudrā — the meditation gesture — cradling an alms bowl, symbolising the complete fulfilment of all aspirations and the offering of liberation to every being who turns toward him.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Amitabha's ruby-red essence — luminously expressed here through brilliant gold — represents the fire of discriminating wisdom that burns away the poison of desire, transforming it into the clarity of pure awareness. The dhyāna mudrā reflects his eternal meditative vow: to hold every being within the light of Sukhāvatī until their liberation is complete. The jewelled lotus throne beneath him represents the Pure Land itself — a realm of perfection born from the power of his boundless, inexhaustible aspiration for all beings.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Sukhāvatīvyūha Sūtra records Amitabha's great vow: "If any being, upon hearing my name, calls it with sincere faith even ten times, and is not reborn in my Pure Land, may I never attain perfect enlightenment." The Amitāyurdhyāna Sūtra teaches that merely visualising his golden form dissolves karmic obscurations accumulated over eighty billion aeons of existence.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Ami Dewa Hrih”
"Salutations to the Buddha of boundless light — may his infinite luminosity guide all beings from the darkness of ignorance into the radiant liberation of the Western Pure Land."
