Why This Statue?

This Green Tara stands apart from gilded counterparts through the sheer vibrancy of her hand-painted colour. The acrylic painted emerald-green body glows with natural warmth, set against rich crimson robes and 24K gold-plated ornaments, crown, and lotus throne scrollwork — a bold, jewel-toned palette that immediately commands attention. Cast using the ancient lost wax method, the underlying copper form features exceptional sculptural detail throughout. At 34.5 cm tall and 4.90 kg, she carries significant altar presence while retaining the intimacy that invites daily devotional practice.

Who Is Green Tara?

Green Tara, (Tibetan: Drolma), is the swift-acting goddess of compassion, courage, and liberation in Vajrayana Buddhism. Born from a tear of Avalokiteśvara upon witnessing the ocean of suffering, she vowed to remain in feminine form across every lifetime until all beings achieved enlightenment. Across Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia she is the most beloved protectress — called upon to remove the eight great fears, overcome obstacles, and guide beings toward liberation with the immediacy of a mother responding to her child.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Green Tara is seated in lalitāsana — the posture of royal ease — her right leg extended forward with effortless, poised readiness to rise and act. Her acrylic hand-painted eyes are half-lidded yet alert, radiating the quality of awareness that is simultaneously deeply relaxed and instantaneously responsive. Her right hand rests on her knee in varada mudrā, the open gesture of boundless generosity and wish-fulfilment, while her left is raised in vitarka mudrā — the gesture of fearless protection and teaching — holding the stem of a closed utpala lotus bud, representing enlightened potential waiting to fully bloom within every being.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

Green Tara's vivid emerald body — the colour of living nature and dynamic enlightened energy — distinguishes her from all other Tara forms. Unlike deities seated in meditative stillness, her extended right leg proclaims her eternal readiness to step immediately into any realm of suffering and act. The rich crimson of her lower robes represents the fire of compassionate activity, while the 24K gold-plated crown and ornaments reflect the sovereign perfection of a fully awakened being whose every action spontaneously benefits all sentient beings without deliberation.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Tārā Mūla Tantra proclaims: "She who saves with a single glance — whose compassion moves faster than thought, whose protection is wider than the sky." The revered master Atiśa attributed every realisation he achieved to Green Tara's direct guidance, declaring her his root teacher and the source of all his Dharma activity across an entire lifetime of dedicated practice.

Sacred Mantra

“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha”

"I invoke Tara — she who liberates from suffering, fear, and all obstacles — may her boundless swift compassion flow freely and completely to all beings without exception."
