Why This Statue?

This Sakyamuni Buddha achieves a rare and compelling aesthetic. The oxidized copper body glows with rich, layered bronze warmth — its surface covered in densely hand-carved floral and scroll patterns of extraordinary precision across the robes, waistband, and lotus throne. The contrast between the warm bronzed body and the acrylic hand-painted golden-ivory face — set with a striking deep blue uṣṇīṣa — creates a vivid, lifelike presence of remarkable visual sophistication. At 35 cm tall and 5.52 kg, this is a substantial, commanding altar piece of genuine lasting quality.

Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?

Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa), "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 5th century BCE. Renouncing royal comfort, he sought the deepest truth of human suffering, attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya, and compassionately taught the path to liberation for forty-five years. He is the founding teacher of Buddhism — born on Nepalese soil — and the most universally revered spiritual master in all of human history.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Sakyamuni sits in padmasana — the full, immovable lotus posture of his enlightenment — radiating absolute, unshakeable inner stillness. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes are warmly half-lowered in deep meditative serenity, holding the gaze of a mind that has dissolved every separation between self and world into boundless compassionate awareness. His right hand reaches gracefully forward in bhūmisparśa mudrā — the earth-touching gesture — calling the earth itself to witness his indestructible awakening against every challenge Mara could summon. His left rests open in his lap cradling an alms bowl, the enduring emblem of his renunciation and the complete contentment from which all his liberating teachings effortlessly arose.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

The oxidized finish of this statue carries its own quiet but profound teaching. The natural darkening of copper over time mirrors the Buddha's foundational insight into impermanence — while the enduring strength of the form itself reflects the indestructible quality of the awakened mind. The densely hand-carved scrollwork flowing across the robes represents the infinite complexity of pratītyasamutpāda — dependent origination — the interconnected web through which all phenomena arise, exist, and dissolve. The painted golden face rising above the bronzed body symbolises wisdom emerging luminously from the depths of conditioned existence.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Dhammapada preserves his words: "Mind is the forerunner of all actions — with mind purified, happiness follows like a shadow that never departs." The Majjhima Nikāya records his simplest, most complete teaching: "I teach suffering and the ending of suffering — nothing else whatsoever."

Sacred Mantra

“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Svaha”

"Salutations to the sage, the great sage, the sage of the Shakya clan — may his boundless enlightened wisdom and compassion fully awaken within all beings without exception."
