Why This Statue?

This Green Tara is a devotional piece of understated yet captivating beauty. The copper body, cast using the ancient lost wax method, is finished in genuine 24K gold gilding — producing a rich, warm luminosity that deepens beautifully under candlelight or natural light. Turquoise and red coral inlays jewel the ornate crown and necklace with vivid colour, while a deep blue acrylic-painted crown hair creates a striking, cool contrast against the surrounding gold. Gold and acrylic hand-painted facial features render her expression with serene alertness and lifelike compassionate presence that rewards every close viewing.

Who Is Green Tara?

Green Tara, (Tibetan: Drolma), is the swift-acting goddess of compassion, protection, and liberation in Vajrayana Buddhism. Born from a compassionate tear of Avalokiteśvara as he witnessed the ocean of beings drowning in suffering, she vowed to remain in feminine form until every last being attained enlightenment. Beloved across Tibet, Nepal, and Mongolia as the most responsive protectress in the entire Buddhist pantheon, she is invoked to swiftly remove obstacles, overcome fears, and guide beings toward liberation with the immediacy of a mother's unconditional love.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Green Tara sits in lalitāsana — the posture of royal ease — her right leg gracefully extended forward, perpetually poised to rise and act without a moment's hesitation on behalf of any suffering being. Her gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes are warmly alert and direct — the gaze of a protectress who sees every being's need instantly and responds without delay or condition. Her right hand rests open on her knee in varada mudrā, the gesture of boundless generosity and immediate wish-fulfilment, while her left is raised in vitarka mudrā — the gesture of fearless protection — holding the stem of a blooming utpala lotus, a reminder that enlightened purity arises effortlessly and beautifully from within ordinary existence itself.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

Green Tara's golden form here embodies the solar warmth of enlightened compassionate activity — dynamic, immediate, and inexhaustible. Her extended right leg is her most iconic iconographic declaration: she does not sit in passive meditation but is perpetually ready to step into every realm of suffering the instant she is called. The turquoise inlays represent the cooling clarity of healing wisdom, while the red coral represents the vitality of active compassionate energy — together mirroring the dual quality of Tara's protection: simultaneously soothing and empowering every being who calls her name.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Tārā Mūla Tantra proclaims: "She who saves with a single glance — whose compassion moves faster than thought, whose protection reaches further than the sky." The revered Atiśa credited every realisation he attained to Green Tara's direct guidance, regarding her as his supreme root teacher above all human masters throughout his entire devoted lifetime.

Sacred Mantra

“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Svaha”

"I invoke Tara — she who liberates from suffering, fear, and all obstacles — may her boundless swift compassion flow freely and completely to all beings without exception."
