Why This Statue?
This 24K gold Sakyamuni Buddha is a jewel in every sense of the word. Standing nearly 13 inches tall, the entire body — robe, throne, and flesh — glows in warm, unbroken 24K gold. What elevates this piece into a collector's treasure are the hand-inlaid gemstones: vivid red coral medallions, deep lapis lazuli, and brilliant turquoise scattered across the robe borders, shoulders, and lotus throne with breathtaking precision. The painted face — arched brows, refined lips, luminous complexion — achieves a human warmth rarely seen in sacred statuary. Every scroll on the robe was carved by hand. This is Newar artistry at its absolute finest.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni — Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa, means "Sage of the Shakya Clan." He is the historical Siddhartha Gautama: the prince who renounced royalty, attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree, and spent forty-five years teaching the path beyond suffering. Revered as the founding Buddha of this era, Sakyamuni is the root teacher of all Buddhist traditions worldwide.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Body Posture
The exquisitely painted eyes — elongated, serene, and gently downcast — emanate the quiet authority of unshakeable awakening. The right hand descends to the earth in Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture calling the ground itself to witness his enlightenment. The left hand rests open in Dhyana Mudra, cradling a golden alms bowl. He sits in full lotus (padmasana) upon a richly carved lotus throne, his gemstone-studded robes cascading in perfect, timeless stillness.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The 24K gold body proclaims the deathless, luminous nature of the awakened mind. The lapis gemstones invoke infinite sky-like awareness; turquoise channels healing and mental clarity; red coral protects and vitalizes. The alms bowl embodies the ego surrendered, forever open. The earth-touching hand is the moment enlightenment became unrefusable — witnessed by the earth, permanent, undeniable. Together, this statue is a complete golden teaching: renounce, awaken, illuminate.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Buddha declared: "Ātmadīpo bhava" — "Be a light unto yourself." This gold-blazing statue is that teaching made visible and permanent. The Newar master artisans of Patan, Nepal — heirs to an unbroken 1,500-year sculptural lineage — embed that luminous wisdom into every lost wax cast with sacred, unhurried devotion.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Mahamuni Shakyamuniye Svaha”
Meaning: "Om, Sage, Sage, Great Sage, Sage Of The Shakyas — So Be It!"
Chanting this mantra before the statue purifies karmic obscurations, awakens innate clarity, and draws the direct blessings of the Enlightened One into your meditation, home, and every moment of daily life.
