This statue captivates with its lustrous 24K gold plating over a solid copper body, beautifully complemented by hand-painted robes featuring intricate floral engravings and vivid acrylic detailing. Its commanding weight and exceptional Nepalese craftsmanship make it a truly outstanding devotional and collector's treasure.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni Buddha, known in Tibetan as Shakya Thubpa — "Sage of the Shakyas" — is the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, who attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya. He is the fountainhead of all Buddhist teachings, revered across every tradition as the supreme teacher of liberation.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Sacred Posture
His hand-painted eyes are serenely half-closed, gazing inward with the perfect stillness of one who has conquered all suffering. His right hand reaches earthward in Bhumisparsha Mudra — the earth-touching gesture — calling the earth to witness his enlightenment, while his left cradles an alms bowl. Seated in padmasana upon a vivid painted lotus throne, his posture embodies absolute, unshakeable awakening.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The earth-touching gesture commemorates the precise moment of Sakyamuni's enlightenment. The alms bowl represents renunciation and simplicity. The richly painted lotus throne — blooming with coral and turquoise inlays — symbolizes the purity of an awakened mind rising untouched above worldly suffering and illusion.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Lalitavistara Sutra proclaims: "He who has crossed the flood, broken the bonds, is awakened." His Sanskrit epithet Tathāgata — "Thus Gone One" — signifies one who has traversed and transcended all conditioned existence, arriving at the unchanging, luminous truth beyond birth and cessation.
Sacred Mantra
“Om muni muni mahamuni sakyamuni soha”
"Om, sage, sage, great sage, Sage of the Shakyas, svaha." Reciting this mantra invokes Sakyamuni's boundless wisdom, deepens meditation practice, and aligns the practitioner with the energy of perfect enlightenment.
