Why This Statue?
This statue strikes a rare balance — substantial enough at 3.90 kg to anchor any altar or meditation space, yet refined enough to grace a collector's display. The 24K gold gilding radiates a warm, burnished glow that deepens with candlelight, while vivid turquoise, coral, and lapis lazuli inlays jewel the lotus throne and robe border with Himalayan brilliance. The lost wax casting captures breathtaking detail in every scroll of the robe, making this an heirloom-quality piece worthy of daily reverence.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni —(Tibetan: Sangye Shakya Thubpa), "Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, present-day Nepal. After years of renunciation and deep meditation, he attained full enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree and spent decades teaching the path of liberation to all beings.
Presence in Every Detail: Eyes, Hands, and Posture
The statue's half-open eyes rest in soft downward focus, a gaze that draws the observer into stillness. His right hand reaches toward the earth in Bhumisparsha Mudra — calling the ground itself to witness his awakening. The left hand rests open in Dhyana Mudra, cradling a bowl of offering. Seated in padmasana, the lotus posture, his body rises effortlessly upright — the living geometry of enlightenment.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The dark ushnisha crowning his head represents transcendent wisdom beyond ordinary mind. The ornate lotus throne speaks of purity untouched by samsara's mud. Turquoise inlays invoke spiritual protection; coral symbolizes vitality and compassion; lapis reflects the deep sky of awakened awareness. Together, they form a complete visual cosmology of the awakened state.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Mahāparinibbāna Sutta reminds us: "Attadīpā viharatha" — "Be a lamp unto yourself." This statue is that lamp — a radiant focal point for practice, inquiry, and inner illumination. The Buddha's teaching was never about blind faith, but the courage to look within.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Mahamuni Shakyamuniye Svaha”
Om is the sacred primordial vibration. Muni means "sage." Mahamuni means "great sage." Shakyamuniye directly invokes the Buddha of the Shakya lineage. Svaha means "so be it" — an offering complete. Reciting this mantra cultivates clarity, dissolves karmic obscurations, and opens the heart to the boundless wisdom of the awakened mind.
