Who is Chengresi?
Chengresi, known as Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, is the beloved Bodhisattva of Compassion in Tibetan Buddhism. Revered across the Himalayas, this enlightened being embodies infinite mercy and devotion to alleviating suffering. In Nepalese and Tibetan tradition, Chengresi is considered the patron deity of Tibet, with the Dalai Lama himself regarded as his earthly manifestation.
Divine Features: Eyes, Hands, and Sacred Posture
This magnificent statue captures Chengresi in his four-armed form, seated in the diamond posture of meditation. The deity's serene expression radiates boundless compassion, with half-closed eyes gazing downward in meditative awareness. The upper pair of hands joins at the heart center in Anjali Mudra, cradling a wish-fulfilling jewel symbolizing enlightened intention. The lower right hand gracefully holds prayer beads representing continuous spiritual practice, while the left hand delicately grasps a blooming lotus flower, signifying purity rising above worldly attachments.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Every element of this statue speaks to spiritual liberation. The elaborate crown represents transcendent wisdom, while the precious gemstone inlays symbolize the jewels of Buddhist teachings. The lotus throne signifies spiritual awakening emerging from the mud of existence.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
In Buddhist philosophy, Chengresi personifies "karuna" (compassion) and embodies the principle that true enlightenment includes the vow to liberate all sentient beings before entering final nirvana.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Mani Padme Hum”
