Why This Statue?

This Chengresi commands immediate devotional attention. The copper body is finished in genuine 24K gold gilding — warm, continuous, and deeply luminous across every engraved surface. A distinctive deep blue acrylic-painted crown and hair create a striking contrast of cool lapis tones against the surrounding gold, while turquoise and red coral inlays jewel the crown and ornaments with vibrant gemstone colour. Gold and acrylic hand-painted facial features achieve a serene, penetrating expression of remarkable lifelike quality. Cast using the ancient lost wax method at 33.5 cm and 3.76 kg, this is an elegantly proportioned, altar-commanding piece of exceptional refinement.

Who Is Chengresi?

Chengresi, Avalokiteśvara in Sanskrit — is the Bodhisattva of infinite compassion and the most universally beloved deity in all of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism. Born from the most compassionate grief — the tear of a being who witnessed every realm overflowing with suffering — he vowed never to rest until the very last sentient being is liberated from saṃsāra. The Dalai Lama is regarded as his living embodiment, and his mantra remains the most widely recited in the entire Buddhist world.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Chengresi sits in padmasana — the immovable full lotus posture — radiating absolute, patient, unwavering compassion. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes gaze forward with serene, penetrating warmth — present to every being without preference, exception, or condition. His two primary hands are pressed together at the heart in añjali mudrā, tenderly cradling the precious cintāmaṇi wish-fulfilling jewel — the living embodiment of bodhicitta offered ceaselessly to all beings. His upper right hand holds a crystal mālā, silently counting the liberation of every being one by one, while his upper left raises a blooming utpala lotus, representing the effortless unfolding of enlightened qualities within the ordinary world.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

Chengresi's four arms embrace the four immeasurables — loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity — reaching across every realm of existence simultaneously without exhaustion or limitation. The cintāmaṇi jewel pressed at his heart is bodhicitta itself — the most precious aspiration in all of Buddhism: to achieve enlightenment solely and completely for the liberation of every other being. His brilliant 24K gold form reflects the sambhogakāya — the bliss body of a fully awakened Buddha radiating ceaselessly for the benefit of all sentient beings across all times and realms.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Kāraṇḍavyūha Sūtra proclaims: "From the pores of Avalokiteśvara's body entire Buddha fields arise — beings who merely hear his name are freed from rebirth in lower realms." The master Jamgön Kongtrul taught: "Chengresi's compassion is not other than the natural warmth of your own awakened mind — to call his name sincerely is to remember who you truly are."

Sacred Mantra

“Om Mani Padme Hum”

"Salutations to the jewel in the lotus — may the inseparable union of compassion and wisdom purify all obscurations and fully awaken the enlightened heart within every being without exception."
