Why This Statue?
This exceptional Chengresi statue showcases authentic Nepalese craftsmanship at its finest. The oxidized copper creates a rich, antique patina that deepens the statue's spiritual presence, while vibrant turquoise, coral, and ruby gemstones adorning the crown, jewelry, and body add sacred brilliance. Standing at an impressive 37 cm with substantial 6.02 kg weight, this piece commands reverence. The intricate detailing—from the ornate crown to the delicately carved lotus throne—demonstrates the artisan's devotion and skill, making it perfect for meditation rooms, Buddhist altars, or as a centerpiece in spiritual collections.
Who is Chengresi?
Chengresi, known as Avalokiteshvara in Sanskrit, represents the embodiment of all Buddhas' compassion. Revered as the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Chengresi vowed never to rest until all sentient beings are freed from suffering. In Tibetan Buddhism, he holds special significance as the patron deity of Tibet, believed to manifest through the Dalai Lamas.
Divine Form and Iconographic Features
The statue depicts Chengresi in his four-armed manifestation, seated in the padmasana posture upon a lotus throne. His serene, downcast eyes reflect deep meditation and boundless compassion for all beings. The upper hands hold a prayer bead mala and a lotus flower, symbolizing spiritual practice and purity. The central hands form the Anjali mudra at the heart center, cradling a wish-fulfilling jewel representing the precious teachings. This balanced posture embodies perfect tranquility and readiness to respond to the cries of suffering beings.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Each element carries profound meaning: the ornate crown signifies spiritual sovereignty, the gemstone inlays represent the Three Jewels of Buddhism, and the lotus throne symbolizes rising above worldly attachments. The four arms represent the Four Immeasurables: loving-kindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Karandavyuha Sutra states: "The Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara surveys the world with compassionate eyes, bestowing fearlessness upon all beings."
Sacred Mantra
“Om Mani Padme Hum”
Meaning: "The jewel is in the lotus," this powerful mantra invokes Chengresi's boundless compassion, purifying negative karma and cultivating wisdom, transforming suffering into liberation.
