Why This Statue?
Compact yet commanding, this 30 cm masterpiece suits altars, meditation rooms, and private collections alike. The copper body, shaped through the lost wax method, carries swirling hand-engraved robe patterns, while 24K gold gilding lends a lasting, warm glow. Delicate acrylic paintings bring the silver-white hair, beard, and expressive face to life.
Who Is Dudjom Lingpa?
Dudjom Lingpa was a nineteenth-century Nyingma master and visionary tertön, a revealer of hidden spiritual treasures. Born in eastern Tibet in 1835, he received visionary teachings from Padmasambhava, including the Dzogchen classic Buddhahood Without Meditation. His name evokes the "Subduer of Maras," conquering inner obstacles.
Key Features and Posture
His wide, penetrating eyes gaze with clarity that cuts through illusion. One raised hand holds a vajra, symbolizing indestructible wisdom, while the other wields a phurba, the ritual dagger that destroys obstacles. His outstretched arms and relaxed cross-legged seat on an animal-skin cushion express dynamic yet grounded freedom: the spontaneity of a yogi who rests in natural awareness.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The white hair and beard honor a seasoned ngakpa, a tantric practitioner whose wisdom has ripened through experience. The topknot crowned with a crossed vajra signifies realization beyond conventional monastic life. Together, the statue symbolizes fearless realization, protection, and the revival of hidden teachings.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
In Sanskrit, vajra means "thunderbolt" or "diamond," representing unbreakable truth, while kīla, the phurba, transforms negativity into awakened energy. The Dzogchen path, the "Great Perfection," teaches that enlightenment is already present, balancing prajñā (wisdom) with karuṇā (compassion).
