Why This Statue?
This masterpiece distinguishes itself through exceptional craftsmanship and spiritual authenticity. The substantial copper construction ensures durability, while the lustrous gold plating creates an aura of divine luminescence. Precious turquoise and coral inlays adorning the crown and jewelry aren't merely decorative—they represent traditional Tibetan sacred artistry. The vibrant green acrylic painting symbolizes Tara's active compassion, and at 35 centimeters tall, this statue commands presence without overwhelming your sacred space. Each curve and gesture reflects generations of Buddhist sculptural tradition passed down through Nepalese artisan families.
Who is Green Tara?
Green Tara, known as Sgrol-ljang in Tibetan, stands as Buddhism's swift protector and the embodiment of enlightened activity. Born from Avalokiteshvara's compassionate tears, she vowed to manifest in female form to liberate all beings. As the "Mother of Liberation," she responds immediately to prayers, offering protection from fears and obstacles while guiding practitioners toward enlightenment.
Sacred Iconography and Posture
Green Tara sits in lalitasana, the posture of royal ease, with her right leg extended in readiness to spring into action. Her right hand rests in varada mudra, the gesture of supreme generosity, while her left hand holds a blue utpala flower near her heart in vitarka mudra, symbolizing teaching and discourse. Her almond-shaped eyes gaze with serene compassion, simultaneously peaceful and alert. The elaborate five-pointed crown represents her mastery over the five Buddha families, while ornate jewelry adorns her graceful form.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
This statue embodies swift, compassionate action. The green hue represents active, enlightened energy—Tara's willingness to immediately assist devotees. Her extended foot signifies readiness to step into the world of suffering, while her seated position demonstrates achieved enlightenment. The lotus throne represents purity arising from worldly existence, untouched by mundane concerns.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
In the Praise to the Twenty-One Taras, she is celebrated as "TURE," the swift, fearless one. The Tibetan master Atisha credited Green Tara as his personal deity, attributing his profound realizations to her blessings.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha”
This powerful mantra invokes Tara's protective presence. "Tare" liberates from samsara, "Tuttare" removes inner and outer obstacles, while "Ture" grants spiritual and temporal happiness, culminating in "Soha," sealing the prayer.
