Why This Statue?
This exceptional 3.75 kg copper sculpture, gold-plated with acrylic artwork, showcases bold Nepalese artistry. The golden body, contrasting with turquoise details and intricate scrollwork, symbolizes wealth. The deity has piercing blue eyes, blue eyebrows, red lips, and a blue beard/mustache, presenting a commanding yet benevolent face. Details include an elaborate crown with five flame jewels and ornate cascading jewelry. The right hand holds a citron, and the left cradles the wish-fulfilling mongoose. The multi-colored lotus throne, featuring turquoise, coral, and gold, elevates any sacred space.
Who is Dzambhala?
Dzambhala is the Buddhist deity of wealth and prosperity. Manifested in five color forms, Dzambhala embodies generosity and the removal of poverty. He serves practitioners by eliminating financial obstacles while teaching that true wealth includes spiritual abundance, ethical conduct, and the resources necessary for dharma practice.
Divine Form: Iconographic Splendor
Dzambhala sits in lalitasana with his right leg pendant, symbolizing readiness to bestow blessings. His generous belly represents abundance and contentment, while his fierce yet benevolent expression demonstrates protective power combined with giving nature. The right hand holds a bijapuraka (citron fruit) symbolizing fulfillment of wishes, while the left hand grasps the jewel-omiting mongoose representing victory over the nagas' hoarded wealth now redistributed to worthy recipients. His vibrant adornments and crown signify the richness of enlightened qualities.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The golden color embodies earth element stability and nourishing energy. The mongoose spitting jewels symbolizes transforming greed into generosity, while the citron represents prosperity's sweet fruits. His opulent form teaches that spiritual practice requires material support, and wealth mindfully used becomes dharma offering.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
Buddhist texts proclaim: "Dhanam dharma-sadhanam"—wealth is the means for dharma practice. Dzambhala teaches that prosperity gained through ethical means and shared generously becomes the foundation for spiritual development and benefiting others.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Dzambhala Dzalendraye Soha”
This powerful prosperity mantra invokes Dzambhala's blessings, where "Dzambhala" calls upon the wealth deity, "Dzalendraye" honors him as lord of abundance, and "Soha" seals the prayer, attracting resources while cultivating generosity and eliminating poverty consciousness.
