Why This Statue?
This oxidized Dzambhala makes an immediate, visceral impression. The deep gunmetal-brown copper finish — polished to a high sheen across the generous belly and rounded limbs — creates a striking contrast against the vivid red coral painted crown band and shoulder accents. At 12 inches tall and nearly as wide, Dzambhala's rotund, powerful form feels abundant simply by presence. The scrolling lotus throne, ornate crown of flame and skulls, and intricately beaded jewelry are all hand-carved with exceptional precision. For devotees and collectors seeking raw sacred power over decorative elegance, this statue is extraordinary.
Who Is Dzambhala?
Dzambhala, is the Buddhist deity of wealth and abundance, known in Sanskrit as Kuber. He is regarded as a compassionate emanation of Avalokiteśvara who manifests prosperity as the natural fruit of generosity and merit. Revered across Tibetan, Newar, and Vajrayana Buddhist traditions, Dzambhala actively removes the obstacles that block material and spiritual flourishing.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Body Posture
The wide, boldly modeled eyes project fierce, sovereign authority — protective wealth incarnate, watching without blinking. The left hand firmly grips a jewel-spitting mongoose (nehulay), Dzambhala's signature emblem of inexhaustible generosity, squeezing gems from its mouth. The right hand cradles a wish-fulfilling jewel (chintamani) against his generous belly. He sits in Maharajalila — royal ease — one leg pendant and grounded, embodying the relaxed confidence of a deity entirely at home in abundance. The sheer roundness of his form radiates prosperity and fullness.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The oxidized copper darkness symbolizes the earth element — grounding, stabilizing, and magnetizing wealth from the ground up. The mongoose conquers miserliness and scarcity, transforming them into flowing generosity. The large belly represents contentment and the capacity to hold great abundance without grasping. The flaming crown asserts that Dzambhala's power over prosperity is absolute and indestructible. Red coral accents invoke life force, vitality, and the energy that drives fortune forward.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Jambhala Tantra affirms: "Dānaṃ sarva sukhasya mūlam" — "Generosity is the root of all happiness." This statue embeds that truth in oxidized copper and devotion. The Newar artisans of Patan, Nepal — inheritors of a living 1,500-year sculptural tradition — pour that sacred teaching into every lost wax cast through generations of unbroken mastery.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Dzambhala Dzalendraye Svaha”
Meaning: "Om, Dzambhala, Lord Of Wealth And Splendor, Svaha."
Chanting this mantra before the statue dissolves obstacles to prosperity, purifies karmic debts around abundance, and opens the practitioner fully to Dzambhala's powerful, overflowing blessings of wealth, generosity, and well-being.
