Why This Statue?

This Sakyamuni Buddha is a large-scale devotional treasure of exceptional quality. The copper body, cast using the ancient lost wax method, is finished entirely in genuine 24K gold gilding that radiates deep, warm luminosity from every surface. Intricate hand-carved scrollwork flows across the robes, waistband, and lotus throne in dense, continuous patterns of extraordinary artisan precision. Gold and acrylic hand-painted facial features — the warm golden-ivory skin, precisely lined eyes, and delicate ūrṇā forehead mark — deliver a serene, lifelike presence of rare refinement. At 38 cm tall and nearly 6 kg, this statue anchors any altar with quiet, sovereign authority.

Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?

Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa), "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 5th century BCE. Renouncing royal privilege, he discovered the middle path and attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya. He spent forty-five years compassionately teaching the path to liberation, founding Buddhism — the most enduring spiritual tradition in human history — born on Nepalese soil.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Sakyamuni sits in padmasana — the full, immovable lotus posture of his great awakening — radiating unshakeable meditative stability that seems to still the air around it. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes are warmly half-lowered in deep meditative absorption, holding the gaze of a mind that has dissolved every boundary between self and world into infinite, open compassion. His right hand reaches gracefully forward in bhūmisparśa mudrā — the earth-touching gesture — calling the earth to bear witness to his indestructible enlightenment against every force Mara marshalled against him. His left rests serenely in his lap cradling an alms bowl, the enduring symbol of renunciation and the complete inner freedom from which all his teachings arose.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

The bhūmisparśa mudrā commemorates the pivotal moment the earth itself roared in affirmation of the Buddha's right to awaken — the most celebrated gesture in all of Buddhist sacred art. The dense hand-carved scrollwork cascading across the golden robes represents the infinite, intricate qualities of the enlightened mind — perpetually generating wisdom, compassion, and liberating activity in every direction simultaneously. The uṣṇīṣa crown protuberance and ūrṇā forehead mark are two of the thirty-two physical marks identifying a fully perfected, awakened being.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Dhammapada preserves his words: "Greater in battle than a man who conquers a thousand men is he who conquers himself." The Mahāparinibbāna Sutta records his final teaching: "All conditioned things are impermanent — work out your liberation with diligence."

Sacred Mantra

“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Svaha”

"Salutations to the sage, the great sage, the sage of the Shakya clan — may his enlightened wisdom and compassion fully awaken within all beings without exception."
