Why This Statue?
This Sakyamuni Buddha proves that extraordinary artisanship knows no size limit. The acrylic hand-painted golden-ochre skin tone gives the Buddha a warm, naturalistic presence of immediate human resonance. Deep crimson robes — gold-plated at the borders — flow with beautifully painted folds, while hand-carved turquoise, red coral, and lapis gemstones are individually set into the robe shoulder and lotus cushion, delivering vivid gemstone colour at a scale that delights close inspection. Cast using the ancient lost wax method, the sculptural quality is uncompromising throughout.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa), "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 5th century BCE. Leaving behind royal privilege, he discovered the middle path, attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya, and taught the path to liberation for forty-five years. He is the founding teacher of Buddhism, born on Nepalese soil — and the most universally revered spiritual master in all of human history.
Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands
Sakyamuni sits in padmasana— the full, immovable lotus posture of his enlightenment — radiating serene, unshakeable inner stillness. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes are warmly half-lowered in deep meditative absorption, holding the gaze of a mind at perfect peace with all of existence. His right hand reaches gently forward in bhūmisparśa mudrā — the earth-touching gesture — the defining moment of his awakening, calling the earth itself to witness his indestructible realisation in the face of Mara's final challenge. His left rests open in his lap cradling an alms bowl, the timeless emblem of his renunciation and the profound inner contentment from which all his liberating teachings naturally arose.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
The compact scale of this statue carries its own quiet teaching — the Buddha's enlightenment required no grand setting, no elaborate throne, and no audience. It required only a human body, an unwavering mind, and a patch of earth beneath a tree. The hand-carved gemstones set into this intimate form — turquoise for clarity, red coral for compassionate vitality, and lapis for the depth of wisdom — together mirror the multidimensional richness of full Buddhahood expressed without excess or display.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dhammapada preserves his words: "Better than a thousand hollow words is one word that brings peace." The Aṅguttara Nikāya records: "There is no fire like passion, no crime like hatred, no sorrow like separateness — and no happiness greater than peace."
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Svaha”
"Salutations to the sage, the great sage, the sage of the Shakya clan — may his enlightened wisdom and compassion fully awaken within all beings without exception."
