Why This Statue?
Few sacred objects command a room the way this statue does. Its generous weight of 5.54 kg speaks to solid craftsmanship, while the 24K gold gilding catches light with an almost supernatural warmth. The vibrant inlays of turquoise, coral, and lapis lazuli add breathtaking color contrast against the gold, while the lost wax method ensures every scroll and fold of the robe is rendered with museum-quality precision. This is not décor — it is devotion made physical.
Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?
Sakyamuni — (Tibetan: Sangye Shakya Thubpa), "Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama, who attained enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. He is the founder of Buddhism and the central figure of the faith, revered across Tibetan, Zen, and Theravada traditions alike.
Key Features: Eyes, Hands, and Posture
The downcast eyes convey deep meditative absorption, inviting the viewer inward. His right hand extends in Bhumisparsha Mudra — the Earth-Touching Gesture — calling the earth to witness his enlightenment. The left hand rests in Dhyana Mudra, cradling a begging bowl, symbolizing compassion and simplicity. Seated in padmasana (the lotus posture), his perfectly upright form embodies unwavering stillness, the ideal posture of awakened awareness.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Every detail carries meaning. The blue ushnisha (topknot) represents supreme wisdom. The lotus throne symbolizes purity rising above worldly suffering. The gold robe adorned with delicate scrollwork reflects the richness of the Dharma. Coral and turquoise inlays represent life force and spiritual protection, deeply rooted in Himalayan sacred traditions.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Dhammapada teaches: "Mano pubban gama dhamma" — "Mind is the forerunner of all actions." This statue is a physical anchor for that teaching, a reminder that inner transformation precedes all outward change. The Buddha's form itself is a visual scripture.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Muni Muni Mahamuni Shakyamuniye Svaha”
Om is the primordial sound of the universe. Muni means "sage" or "silent one." Mahamuni means "great sage." Shakyamuniye invokes the Sage of the Shakyas directly. Svaha means "so be it" — a seal of offering and devotion. Chanting this mantra cultivates wisdom, purifies karma, and deepens one's connection to the enlightened mind of the Buddha.
