Why This Statue?

This oxidized Sakyamuni Buddha offers something genuinely different from gilded pieces — and no less powerful. The oxidized copper finish creates a rich, layered patina of warm bronze and deep shadow tones that shift beautifully under different lighting conditions, lending the statue a sense of age, gravitas, and living depth. Every inch of the monastic robe is covered in intricate hand-carved scrollwork of exceptional density and precision. Acrylic hand-painted facial features deliver a serene, naturally lifelike expression. At 35.5 cm tall and 5.02 kg, this is a solidly substantial altar presence with timeless character.

Who Is Sakyamuni Buddha?

Sakyamuni, (Tibetan: Shakya Thubpa), "the Sage of the Shakya Clan" — is the historical Buddha, born Prince Siddhartha Gautama in Lumbini, Nepal, in the 5th century BCE. Renouncing royal privilege and years of extreme asceticism, he found the middle path and attained complete enlightenment beneath the Bodhi tree at Bodh Gaya. For four decades he walked the subcontinent teaching the path to liberation. He is the founder of Buddhism and the most universally revered spiritual teacher in human history.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Sakyamuni sits in padmasana — the full, immovable lotus posture — precisely as he sat at the moment of his enlightenment. His acrylic hand-painted eyes are serenely half-lowered in deep meditative absorption, radiating the boundless, quiet compassion of a mind that has dissolved every separation between self and world. His right hand reaches gently forward in bhūmisparśa mudrā — the earth-touching gesture — calling the earth to witness his unassailable awakening against all of Mara's challenges. His left rests open in his lap, cradling an alms bowl that embodies his life of renunciation, simplicity, and complete contentment.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

The oxidized finish of this statue carries its own quiet symbolism — the natural darkening of copper over time mirrors the Buddha's teaching on impermanence while simultaneously evoking the feeling of a relic recovered from sacred antiquity. The densely hand-carved robe, its scrolling patterns disappearing into shadow and re-emerging in warm bronze highlights, reflects the infinite complexity of the enlightened mind expressing itself through form. The uṣṇīṣa crown protuberance and ūrṇā forehead mark identify him unmistakably as a being of full, perfected awakening.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Dhammapada preserves his words: "Mind is the forerunner of all actions — with mind purified, happiness follows like a shadow that never departs." The Majjhima Nikāya records: "I teach one thing and one thing only — suffering, and the end of suffering."

Sacred Mantra

“Om Muni Muni Maha Muni Sakyamuni Svaha”

"Salutations to the sage, the great sage, the sage of the Shakya clan — may his boundless enlightened wisdom and compassion fully awaken within all beings without exception."
