Why This Statue?

This Amitayus is visually distinctive in the most compelling way. The acrylic hand-painted deep ruby-red body — the traditional colour of this longevity deity — glows with warm, jewel-like richness against a silver-plated crown and ornaments that gleam with cool, lunar clarity. Gold-plated throne scrollwork and robe details add further warmth and depth to this sophisticated multi-finish palette. Cast using the ancient lost wax method at 32 cm tall, every ornamental detail from the elaborate crown to the lotus petals is rendered with exceptional sculptural precision and care.

Who Is Amitayus?

Amitayus, (Tibetan: Tsepagme), "Boundless Life" — is the longevity aspect of Amitabha Buddha in Vajrayana Buddhism, specifically invoked to extend lifespan, overcome life-threatening obstacles, and accumulate the merit necessary for a meaningful, practice-filled life. While Amitabha embodies boundless light, Amitayus embodies boundless life — the two are inseparable expressions of the same enlightened wisdom. Revered across Tibet, Nepal, and the Himalayan world, he is one of the three principal long-life deities alongside White Tara and Ushnishavijaya.

Key Features: Posture, Eyes, and Hands

Amitayus sits in padmasana — the immovable full lotus posture — radiating the serene, unshakeable stability of a being who abides beyond the reach of time and death. His gold and acrylic hand-painted eyes are half-lowered in deep meditative absorption, gazing inward with the tranquil certainty of inexhaustible, luminous awareness. Both hands rest in his lap in dhyāna mudrā — the meditation gesture — cradling the precious amṛta vase, the vessel of immortal nectar filled with the elixir of deathless wisdom. From the vase's mouth, an aśoka tree branch rises — the auspicious symbol of life, vitality, and the flourishing of all positive conditions.

Sacred Symbolism and Meaning

The amṛta vase Amitayus holds is the defining symbol of his entire teaching: life is not merely biological duration — it is the precious vessel within which the Dharma can be practiced, karma purified, and enlightenment approached. His ruby-red form represents the fire element and the wisdom of the Lotus family — the transformative power that transmutes attachment into the clarity of boundless compassionate awareness. The silver crown reflects the cooling, healing quality of lunar wisdom that protects life from all untimely obstacles and disruptions.

Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom

The Amitāyurdhyāna Sūtra teaches: "One moment of sincere devotion to Amitayus can dissolve the karma of countless lifetimes of harmful actions." The great Tibetan master Longchenpa taught that the long-life practices of Amitayus are not merely about adding years to one's life — they are about deepening the quality of awareness within every single moment of the life one already possesses.

Sacred Mantra

“Om Amarani Jivantiye Svaha”

"Salutations to the one of deathless life — may all obstacles to long life be removed, may vitality and wisdom flourish, and may this precious life be fully used for the benefit of all beings."
