Why This Statue?
This is not merely a statue — it is a universe of compassion captured in gold. The sweeping mandorla aureole fans dramatically behind the figure, hand-textured with hundreds of raised details. Turquoise and coral inlays punctuate the golden surface with vibrant color, while acrylic-painted faces carry striking, lifelike expressions. At nearly 9 kg of solid copper, this is a commanding altar centerpiece of museum-grade quality.
Who Is Lokeshwor?
Lokeshwor — "Lord of the World" — is Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of infinite compassion. His thousand-armed form arose from a vow so immense that when he witnessed unending suffering, his body shattered into pieces; Amitabha Buddha then reconstituted him with eleven heads and a thousand arms to reach every being simultaneously.
Presence Bexyond Measure: Eyes, Hands, and Posture
His eleven stacked faces gaze in all directions — serene, wrathful, and transcendent — seeing every realm without exception. The primary hands hold a wish-fulfilling jewel at his heart in anjali mudra, while surrounding arms fan outward like rays of golden light, each holding sacred implements. He stands tall in samabhanga posture, poised and unwavering in his mission to liberate all.
Sacred Symbolism and Meaning
Each of the thousand arms holds an eye in its palm — seeing and responding to suffering in every direction. The eleven heads represent his perception across all eleven stages of Bodhisattva realization. The flaming golden aureole symbolizes the blazing light of compassion illuminating all realms of existence without discrimination.
Sanskrit and Buddhist Wisdom
The Karandavyuha Sutra declares Avalokiteshvara the embodiment of all Buddhas' compassion: "Sarva Buddhanam Karunarupa" — the very form of universal compassion. His thousand arms signify that no cry goes unheard, no suffering unseen, across all realms and lifetimes.
Sacred Mantra
“Om Mani Padme Hum”
"Om — the essence of enlightened body, speech, and mind. Mani — the jewel of compassion. Padme — the lotus of wisdom. Hum — the indivisible union of both." Reciting this mantra purifies all six realms of suffering and invokes Lokeshwor's boundless compassion directly into one's heart.
